Carrie Ryan at Changing Hands [Book Signing Report] [Giveaway]

So last month, I went to see Carrie Ryan at Changing Hands.  She was fantastic!

Some things I learned about Carrie Ryan:
  1. She's a lawyer, but just petitioned to have her law license put into "inactive" status.
  2. She has never been able to finish the movie Poltergeist, even though Netflix thinks she should.
  3. She's hard core Team Zombie (which is kinda a given).
  4. She may or may not have selected an apartment because of it's Zombie Apocalypse survivability.
  5. Movie rights for Forest have been sold, and screenplay written, and they are looking for a director.
  6. There will probably be a C.Ryan book trailer on the Vampire Diaries April 7th, so keep your eyes peeled.
  7. She's gracious and modest and didn't get all offended when I told her I hated the audiobook. *phew*
  8. She's a great speaker and you should go see her if you're ever given the chance.
Now, you guys read my audiobook inspection of Carrie's first book, The Forest of Hands and Teeth.  I know you did.  But what you didn't get to know it that at the insistence of one of my friends, I read the book as well, after the audiobook experience.

I loved reading the story, but I didn't love listening to it.  My friend Tam made me re-"read" it and I'm so glad she did.  Carrie is a lot better writer than the narrator is a narrator.  (I really hated the narrator too, if you'll recall)  And Carrie mentioned last night that she has never listened to her audiobooks.  Which, I have to say is probably a good thing.  So anyway, I guess the moral here, is that I recommend you read her books.  I just don't recommend listening to them.

And as a testament to how good her books are for reluctant readers, there were not one, not two, but at least three teachers in the audience that night who spoke up verbally and praised Carrie's writing and gave anecdotal evidence supporting the reluctant reader thing.  I had never considered that aspect, but given the chance to reflect on it, I'd definitely jump on that bandwagon and say if you have a reluctant reader, try Carrie Ryan.

Now, I have some cool swag that she signed to give away, including signed pins and postcards, but I'm not doing the standard giveaway form this time.  Email and tell me if you're Team Zombie or Team Unicorn in the subject line (I'm still kicking myself for forgetting my Zombies vs. Unicorns at home... that's twice now I've not taken it with me to get it signed by authors inside!). I'll draw one Zombie and one Unicorn winner on 6.11.11.  So cut off for entering is 6.10.11, 11:59PM, Arizona time.  One entry per person.  Open worldwide.

I missed that event at changing hands but I did get to meet Carrie at the RT Convention in LA.

I just recently read all Carrie's books... I know a lot of people disliked Mary's narration, but I think the first book is actually my favourite.
