I AM NUMBER FOUR Read Along Discussion #5 [Read Along]

At least this chapter ended at a good stopping point, right?

Plot Summary:  Sarah gets back from Colorado, so happy to see John, makes out with John, they are interrupted by Henri.  Sarah goes home.  Henri and John work on training some more.  John has more visions/nightmares of Lorien and its destruction and more people who might have gotten off of the planet at night.  They go to school, Mark invites everyone to a party at his place.  Sam admits to liking Emily.  They all go to the party.  Fire started by an Emily/Sam makeout session.  John can't find Sarah.  Sarah and dogs trapped inside house fire.  John goes in to save them.  Since he saves them from the second floor, he has to explain to Sarah that he's an alien, but he decides not to tell Henri about the incident and swears Sarah to secrecy.  The police question the pair, and they tell them that they were just out back, watching the blaze.  Reporter follows and promises to find out the truth.  Henri picks up Sam, John, and Sarah from the party.  Sarah and John don't want to be apart.  Henri promises John he'll look at the papers on Monday for an explanation of the fire.

Answers:  We kind of got an answer to the monogamy and race repopulation issues we were wondering about.  We find out on page 275 that mating between a Loric and a human "usually...results in an exceptional and gifted human."  Also on pages 274-275 Henri cautions John to have fun with Sarah, but that he "wouldn't count on Sarah being your partner."  Dun Dun Dun.  *que evil sad music*

Today's Questions:

1. So do you think that anyone else made it to earth off of the museum ship?
2. Do you think that John was right to save Sarah and the dogs?
3. What consequences do you forsee for John for telling Sarah that he's an alien?
4. What do you think Henri will find in the papers on Monday?
5. Bernie Kosar = Hadley?
6. Do you think it was Number Nine that saved the man in Argentina?
7.  Do you think that Number Nine is Four's soulmate/parents' best friends child?
8. What did you think about the Greek gods being half Loric? (and Caesar, Aristotle, Khan, da Vinci, Newton, Jefferson, and Einstein?)

Reading for tomorrow is through page 383, chapters 27-30.  Only two days left :o(

Those pages FLEW by. Anyone else agree?

1. Yes, I do. Otherwise, I don't see how this information could PUSH the story forward...
2. If he didn't they'd have died. Simple as that. The fire was bad enough as it was. Help would not have made it on time if he'd have done nothing.
3. He's going to lose her. But that'll happen even if she didn't know. But now she's more involved.
4. Exactly what Four would be afraid of seeing.
5. Heh. ;P Crazy dog, is all I can say.
6. Yes, I do...
7. Whoa. That's a crazy thought. The possibility is always there.
8. I like thinking that these guys were half Loric. I kind of smiled when I read that part. :P

1. I definitely think others made it to earth off that ship.
2. Of course it was right for John to save Sarah and the dogs!
3. I think he is going to end up leaving her whether it be for her own safety or Henri forcing him to leave.
4. An article about him racing into the fire and coming out without a burn. I think this reporter will be the reason he is exposed.
5. I don't know if he's Hadley, but that would be pretty cool. Its possible since Bernie Kosar seemed to seek Four out.
6. Yes
7. Maybe! That would definitely be interesting. Love triangle for future books maybe?
8. I thought those revelations were funny. It kind of says humans would be stupid without the Loric race.

2. Do you think that John was right to save Sarah and the dogs?

I think he had to. It's not in his character to just walk away from her and get a new special girl friend. He just had to. But, it's definitely not the best way to keep the fact that you're an alien a secret!

3. What consequences do you forsee for John for telling Sarah that he's an alien?

I think that people are going to have questions and this'll start rumors and that the Mogadorians will be alerted to John's presence.

7. Do you think that Number Nine is Four's soulmate/parents' best friends child?

This is an interesting plot twist. Will John have to choose between his human girl friend, with whom he has an obvious physical and emotional connection to, in order to procreate and save his dying race? This would be an excellent love / duty triangle.

8. What did you think about the Greek gods being half Loric? (and Caesar, Aristotle, Khan, da Vinci, Newton, Jefferson, and Einstein?)

I loved this part! I think that it's true that there are a lot of stand-out people in our planet's history, but I'd like to think that humans just have the potential on their own to be brilliant.

It doesn't make sense that the gods themselves are half-Loric, because the way their abilities and the offspring present, the Lorians themselves are the gods, while these exceptional offspring are your more classical demigods.

That part has always bugged me.

1. So do you think that anyone else made it to earth off of the museum ship?

Judging by all the foreshadowing and hints, my guess is yes – others made it off the planet on that other ship. And by others, I mean some of the animals too.

2. Do you think that John was right to save Sarah and the dogs?

Yes, and No. Yes, because IF he makes it through this and survives then they have a chance. But then again, he is ONLY bringing more attention to himself! Not only that, now he has told TWO people who he is.. there is bound to be a leak.

3. What consequences do you forsee for John for telling Sarah that he’s an alien?

I read one chapter too far… my prediction lies within the first page of chapter 27.

4. What do you think Henri will find in the papers on Monday?

Again – I accidentally read one chapter too far – the answer comes in chapter 27. It’s huge!

5. Bernie Kosar = Hadley?

Wait – I don’t remember who Hadley was…

6. Do you think it was Number Nine that saved the man in Argentina?

It sure seems like it! Eventually the others (5-9) are bound to show up in the news.

7. Do you think that Number Nine is Four’s soulmate/parents’ best friends child?

Interesting theory. I look forward to finding out. I really hope we get to learn more about the other remaining kids.

8. What did you think about the Greek gods being half Loric? (and Caesar, Aristotle, Khan, da Vinci, Newton, Jefferson, and Einstein?)

I thought it was interesting. I guess revealing that the world’s formost geniuses were half alien would explain a lot! : )

1. I hope so. But the odds seem low.
2. No, I don't. He's supposed to be thinking self-preservation and survival of the species, and here he goes thinking with his other head? How is Henri allowing this?
3. Numerous ones for not only John, but for Sarah as well. He didn't do Sarah a favor by telling her. He should have just told her that she was in shock, and that's not what happened. The Mogadorians are totally gonna go after Sam and Sarah both now. And heck, maybe even Emily just by association.
4. Story about John and how he can fly and how he's the Paradise Superhero. I dunno, but that's some heavy foreshadowing, no?
5. Hope So.
6. I too, don't know if it's nine, but odds are that it seems like it could be one of the Loric
7. I kinda hope not. Just because if they're ever gonna get together, it'd be a lot harder with the Mogadorians on their tails.
8. Honestly? I was offended. Like humans can't be great unless there is some alien DNA added to the mix. Really? And I was totally thinking the same thing as Catherine about the Greek gods. It doesn't really align for me. I wish they'd have left that part out, or made it a little less out there. Maybe pick one famous person that was half-Loric.

1. Yes, I think that they made it off too. If not, we probably wouldn't be reading about it.

2. Yes, he had to save them. How could he not? How convenient that it was fire that they needs rescued from.....

3. Well I definitely think Sarah will be sucked into this whole mess now, but he needed to either tell her, or break it off anyway.

6. I do think it was #9
5. Yes!! He's way too smart and loyal not to be!

7. I kind of want him to be with one of his own kind. Since they love on a different level. I like Sarah ok, but her character isn't that interesting to me.

I thought it was kind of lame that the Greek gods were supposed to be from them. It seems overused any time there's a being with extraordinary gifts, it's said they were the Greek gods.

Sorry for how this looks, trying to do it on my phone and it's being difficult. I can't wait till my internet is back up!!!

This is still fun, tho!

1. Totally - I bet that 'museum' ship was retro-fitted & really only needed the fuel to get airborne. With all their contingency plans, this one was obviously on the list as a last resort, but on the list nonetheless.

2. Four never would have forgiven himself if he hadn't done something. He might have escaped detection, but not for much longer. So it would have bought him some time, but he wouldn't have been able to live with himself.

3. I'm sorta surprised that he didn't at least try the "maybe you're just drunk" line - she had a beer, right? Don't you have to at least try that one? Consequences galore.

4. No spoilers here, I read too far.

5. I don't know if is't Hadley, but totally one of the chimaera.

6. Totally number 9

7. It's possible, but I don't think that means that they HAVE to be soulmates. We were talking about diversifying the gene pool - perhaps Sarah is just the pool to diversify.

8. Goo, insert eye roll here. As soon as they said the Greek Gods & started listing I made a mental list of who would obviously be included & they were. I wish it could have been a few of the more well known people in history that were perhaps not as obvious.
