Generation Dead & Pretty Little Liars + More [Saturday Steals]

I got some great steals this week...  I'm kinda proud of them.  What can I say?  I like to shop, so when I get awesome steals and then get to share them with you guys, it's like a triple bonus!  Yay.
First up.  GENERATION DEAD by Daniel Waters!  I'vehad this on my wishlist for a pretty long time and was totally stoked to see the hardcover go on sale for $6.80 ($16.99 - $6.80 = $10.19 savings or 60% off).  Here's the description:
Phoebe Kendall is just your typical Goth girl with a crush. He's strong and silent...and dead.
All over the country, a strange phenomenon is occurring. Some teenagers who die aren't staying dead. But when they come back to life, they are no longer the same. Feared and misunderstood, they are doing their best to blend into a society that doesn't want them.

The administration at Oakvale High attempts to be more welcoming of the "differently biotic." But the students don't want to take classes or eat in the cafeteria next to someone who isn't breathing. And there are no laws that exist to protect the "living impaired" from the people who want them to disappear--for good.

When Phoebe falls for Tommy Williams, the leader of the dead kids, no one can believe it; not her best friend, Margi, and especially not her neighbor, Adam, the star of the football team. Adam has feelings for Phoebe that run much deeper than just friendship; he would do anything for her. But what if protecting Tommy is the one thing that would make her happy?
And what's more?  I got the sequel, GENERATION DEAD: KISS OF LIFE, for $6.80  ($16.99 - $6.80 = $10.19 savings or 60% off) too!
The phenomenon that's been sweeping the country seems to be here to stay.  Not only are the teenagers who have come back from their graves still here, but newlydeads are being unearthed all the time.  While scientists look for answers and politicians take their stands, the undead population of Oakville have banded together in a group they're calling the Sons of Romero, hoping to find solidarity in segregation.

Phoebe Kendall may be alive, but she feels just as lost and alone as her dead friends.  Just when she reconciled herself to having feelings for a zombie -- her Homecoming date Tommy Williams -- her friend Adam is murdered taking a bullet that was meant for her.  Things get even more confusing when Adam comes back from the grave.  Now she has romantic interest in two dead boys; one who saved her life, and one she can't seem to live without.
Oh and then, you saw how we're going to have a PRETTY LITTLE LIARS Read Along starting a week from tomorrow, right?  As elizabeth was so kind to point out, the paperback version of the book is on sale at Amazon for $3.49 ($8.99 - $3.49 = $5.50 savings or 61% off).  Such a total steal that I bought another copy.  If you're interested in reading along with us, you should snag a copy up for yourself!
Everyone has something to hide—especially high school juniors spencer, aria, emily, and hanna.  Spencer covets her sister's boyfriend. Aria's fantasizing about her English teacher. Emily's crushing on the new girl at school. Hanna uses some ugly tricks to stay beautiful.  But they've all kept an even bigger secret since their friend Alison vanished.  How do I know? Because I know everything about the bad girls they were, the naughty girls they are, and all the dirty secrets they've kept. And guess what? I'm telling.
I also picked up a few items for gifts.  "Gifts?" You ask, "In April?"  Well, yeah, I start my Christmas shopping a wee bit early on oh... December 26th.  Hey - it makes the season more enjoyable and a lot less stressful for me (not to mention less expensive).  Here we go:

FAIREST by Gail Carson Levine for $2.80.  ($6.99 - $2.80 = $4.19 savings or 60% off)
Once upon a time, there was a girl who wanted to be pretty . . .

Aza's singing is the fairest in all the land, and the most unusual. She can "throw"t her voice so it seems to come from anywhere. But singing is only one of the two qualities prized in the Kingdom of Ayortha. Aza doesn't possess the other: beauty. Not even close. She's hidden in the shadows in her parents' inn, but when she becomes lady-in-waiting to the new queen, she has to step into the light—especially when the queen demands a dangerous favor. A magic mirror, a charming prince, a jealous queen, palace intrigue, and an injured king twine into a maze that Aza must penetrate to save herself and her beloved kingdom.
BEASTLY by Alex Flinn for $2.80. ($8.99 - $2.80 = $6.19 savings or  69% savings) You can check out the book inspection for this one if you're interested.
A beast. Not quite wolf or bear, gorilla or dog but a horrible new creature who walks upright—a creature with fangs and claws and hair springing from every pore. I am a monster.

You think I'm talking fairy tales? No way. The place is New York City. The time is now. It's no deformity, no disease. And I'll stay this way forever—ruined—unless I can break the spell.

Yes, the spell, the one the witch in my English class cast on me. Why did she turn me into a beast who hides by day and prowls by night? I'll tell you. I'll tell you how I used to be Kyle Kingsbury, the guy you wished you were, with money, perfect looks, and the perfect life. And then, I'll tell you how I became perfectly . . . beastly.
CUPCAKES! by Elinor Klivans for $1.30.  ($16.95 - $1.30 = $15.65 off or 92% off)  Um.  I bought three.  {one *might* be for me}
What's short and sweet and cute as a button? Cupcakes! And everyone loves 'em! Trusted favorites at picnics, potlucks, and bake sales, cupcakes go equally well at relaxed and informal gatherings or at elegant parties. Here are 50 scrumptious ways to bring smiles and those nostalgic memories back faster than a kid can lick the batter off a beater. Ethereal Lemon Angel Cupcakes soar even higher when served with some fresh seasonal fruit. With tips and techniques for perfect cupcake-making, basic "head-start" recipes, and gorgeous photographs, it's time to get out the baking pans and join the cupcake craze. These diminutive cakes may be small but they stand tall in the world of sweets.
STUD MUFFINS by  Judi Guizado, Gilda Jimenez, & Shari Hartz for $4.79.  Laugh all you want, but the two people I bought this for?  They'll totally adore it.  ($18.99 - $4.79 = $14.20 savings or 75% off)

I really hope you enjoyed this installment of my Saturday Steals... and hope that you'll join in the fun by checking out the other Saturday Steals posts linked up at Archives of our Lives and/or by participating yourself!  Remember, it can be whatever you bought this week, or last week, or last year, that is worth more than you paid for it - either fiscally or emotionally.  As you can see, I got a little eensy weensy bit carried away this week. But can you blame me?

I read Generation Dead during summer vacation and IMO,it was a bit tiring. There is a big chance that I was not in the mood for something like that,so maybe that's why I didn't like it much. But I wouldn't mind reading it again and even reading Kiss Of Life.
Can't wait for the PLL read along :):)

Ooo! Too bad to hear that Generation Dead isn't well-liked! I read a few amazing reviews not that long ago and thought I'd check it out... but if you guys say it's cheesy, I'll knock them down in the pile! I trust you guys!

Wow, great bargains! And Christmas shopping already! What a smart shopper you are. I read Generation Dead and liked it. There was a lot of emphasis on discrimination and how poorly the zombie kids were being treated in school. They weren't considered "real" people. It just had more of a message than I expected from a zombie book so it kind of depends on what you're in the mood for. I haven't read the next book yet but I plan to. I can't wait to read Beastly and Pretty Little Liars too. Enjoy your goodies!!

The Generation Dead books were okay, I wasn't too keen on them though. I really want to read the Pretty Little Liars series too, but I have enough to read already! And that stud muffins cookbook made me laugh XD
