You know what? I remember reading this book like it was yesterday. I remember the atmosphere and lying on the couch staying home sick from church while reading it. I remember so many details about my life from when I read it. I don't remember the story that much, but I associate it with a good time in my life. I liked the story well enough that the act of reading it is what is etched into my brain instead of the story itself. This, for me, is rare. I have very few memories of reading as a child, and honestly, very few memories of my childhood at all. But this book is there, and so are the details of my life from when I read it. It was a priceless experience and a treasured memory. I haven't read another book by Avi, but this book, this work, will stay with me always, and for that, I am very appreciative.
