What Single Book Have You Read The Most Times? [You're The Expert]

I wasn't much of a reader in my youth. I pretended to read, because I liked to collect books, but I really only read one book over and over again. Lame? Maybe. But I got to know Charlie & The Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl like it was the back of my hand. To this day, it is the only book I have ever read more than once, and I've read it EIGHT times.

How about you? What book have you read the most times? How many times have you read it?

I'm a huge re-reader. I have a couple of boxes of books I lug with me wherever in the world I move so that I can read them whenever I want. It's a comfort thing. I definitely read new books, too, but every now and then I want to go back to an old favorite and try it back on to make sure we're still in love with each other (sorry about the mixed metaphors).

The book I've read most, simply because it's been in the 'favorite' pile since childhood, is Gene Stratton Porter's A Girl of the Limberlost. My parents used to joke that I read it once a year like clockwork. If I disappeared mysteriously for an afternoon, they were sure I was re-reading that favorite. So I estimate that I've read it 17 or 18 times. Possibly more. *smile*

i love that book! read it in primary school. we had a teacher that made each of us buy a different book, and we had a week to read our book, and when the week had passed, we traded the books. read a different book each week, and this one was one of them.

the book i've read most times has to be HP7. i just love *SPOILER* that ron and hermione finally kiss! i'm a huge hermione fan, as you know, and jk made me wait until the final book to read that, so i was quite stunned when i read that- i literally stayed open-mouthed for like a minute, i just couldn't believe it! and i love the story line of that book, can read it over and over, and i won't get tired of reading it.

I loved Roald Dahl growing up - I think the big friendly giant (BFG) was my favorite by him, but I still have 5 or 6 of his books sitting on my bookshelf from when I was little, including Charlie & the Chocolate Factory and its sequel (Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator? Don't remember).

I looove to reread books over and over and over again. I think I've read the shopaholic series (my biggest guilty pleasure) at least 6 or 7 times by now - it's what I go to whenever I'm depressed and need a comfort read. Other favorites, like Gone with the Wind or Pride and Prejudice, I've probably read at least 4 or 5 times.

I am a hoarder and I am also like Celi, I have a set - who am I kidding a whole bookshelf of books that I cannot part from and I re-read them as and when the mood kicks in...

There is Lavryle Spencer, my books of poetry, Sandra Brown - Charade and a few fantasy art books that I trawl through every month...

The book I have read the most of is probably "The Gamble - Lavryle Spencer", obviously there are my books from growing up - Dahl of course, the cat in the hat, the Year in San Fernando... etc

I believed the only book I managed to repeat and not get tired of was Quid Quo Pro by Vicki Grant. Funny stuff.

I've definitely read Terry Brooks' "Sword of Shannara" more times than anything else. That was one of the books that got me started reading fantasy, and back in the day, I just kept re-reading it. Nowadays I don't read enough to have time to re-read, because I'm too busy with writing... hehe.
