You're The Expert: Prioritizing Your Bookshelf

I remember a time not so long ago that I would agonize over what I could read next. You see, this is before I discovered the wonderful world of book blogging and was going it alone. It was such a painstaking process to find books that sounded interesting. Now that I read about 200 blogs (and can NOT keep up with them all) I feel like I've always got great books around me and I can't seem to pick which to read next.

Do you ever sit by your bookshelf and look at your to-read books and just feel overwhelmed with awesome choices?

That's the spot I am in (and the reason you've seen so many polls from me lately), so I could really use some of your expertise!

  • Do you have a system for choosing what book you read next?
  • Do you wing it?
  • Do you ever feel like there's a book you want to read really really badly, but you're just not in the mood for _______ which is what the book is about right now?
  • Do you ever get a new book in the mail and devour it without entering into your system? (Yeah, I did that last night)
  • Do you ever have a curiosity about a book so strong that you don't want to read it just yet because it makes you worried you're going to be let down?

C'mon, share your expertise on this subject with us. I'm awaiting your awesome advice.
