Book Inspection: Audrey, Wait! by Robin Benway

Plot Sketch: Audrey and Evan are dating. Evan is a musician in a band called the Do-Gooders, which is slightly better than your average high school band. After much internal debate and a pro/con list that was con-heavy, Audrey decides it's time to break it off with Evan. He's so busy talking about himself he barely realizes that she's breaking up with him. Once he realizes it, he shouts, "Audrey, Wait!" down the stairs after her. She hears him, but pretends not to and keeps on going. The next night, Audrey and her BFF Victoria (don't you dare try to call her Vicky, btw) decide that they'll still go see the Do-Gooders. Evan had asked Audrey to go, so she went. That's when the Do-Gooders debut what becomes The Song. "Audrey, Wait!" is the title of their new song. The right people hear it, it gets on the radio, and it becomes a national phenom. People figure out that Audrey is that Audrey and this book is about the changes that ensue once Audrey becomes famous because her ex-boyfriend wrote a song about her breaking up with him.

Verdict: I Heart It. Audrey, Wait! is a fun book. There are squee worthy passages, and lots of clever lines. Good thing too, because I almost put it down several times because I swear to you that there are no less than 100 instances of the f-word (or some form of it) in this book. Dear Robin Benway, You have a potty mouth. Or at least your characters do. kthanksbye, IHM. If you can overlook the profanity, this book is awesome. Lots of great lines and girl power moments.

The Gauntlet:

At what location does most of the story take place?
Los Angeles-ish

What is the main character's name?
Audrey Cuttler

Does I Heart Monster like the main character?
LOVE her. She's not afraid to be herself which rocks.

How long did it take I Heart Monster to finish the book?
took me a while to get past the profanity.

Did I Heart Monster get stuck at any points in the book? If so, why?
no plot points, just profane points.

Is this a good read for Monster?

What, if anything, would I Heart Monster change to make the book more interesting?
It was plenty interesting.

What was I Heart Monster's favorite line?
"(It should be noted that I'm not a giggler. My laugh is rather honky. I believe 'angry duck' is the way Victoria described it once, just before I tried to disembowel her.)"

How many chapters were in the book?
40 and I happen to think that their length was just right.
