Book Inspection by Monster: Magic Lost, Trouble Found by Lisa Shearin (@LisaShearin)

Plot Sketch: Raine Benares is a sorceress of moderate power and a seeker. While keeping an eye on a not-so-reformed thief friend (Quentin) of hers, she finds herself mixed up in a predicament greater than she could have imagined from trying to bail him out. She comes into possession of an amulet that Quentin stole, the only problem is that there are a lot of other people that want that amulet too and they could care less if they have to kill her to get it. The amulet links her to a soul-stealing stone of great power and gives her new powers as well. Now she has to use all of the resources she can find to stay alive and try to find out why these people want the amulet and the stone and how to get rid of it.

Verdict: I Heart It. I was a little doubtful at first whether or not I would get into the book because I wasn't sure if it would be a style that I would like or not. I never lost interest in the book once I started reading it. The story was interesting and entertaining all the way through it. It's written in first person, from Raine's point of view, and Raine is definitely very much female, so its defnitely an interesting perspective for a male reader. Female readers may be able to appreciate some parts of the story more than the guys, but it's still a good read.

The Gauntlet:
At what location does most of the story take place?
in the city of Mermeia

What is the main character's name?
Raine Benares

Does Monster like the main character?
Yes, she reminds me of I Heart Monster a little. It's nice to find characters who aren't so super serious about things and she's definitely different than most of the lead characters in the books that I've been reading lately.

How long did it take Monster to finish the book?
Total reading time wasn't very long, but I started it at work, and got through about six chapters there, and finished it up at home in less than a day.

Did Monster get stuck at any points in the book? If so, why?

Is this a good read for I Heart Monster?
She might actually find this one entertaining. It almost reminds me more of some of the TV shows she watches like Charmed (in a way). Yeah, I'd say she might like it.

What, if anything, would Monster change to make the book more interesting?

What was Monster's favorite line?
"Water and I have an agreement - I don't get too close to it, and it won't drown me." That reminds me of I Heart Monster!

How many chapters were in the book?
