Book Inspection: Damsel Under Stress by Shanna Swendson

Plot Sketch: This is the third book in the Katie Chandler series by Shanna Swendson. The story starts where Once Upon Stilettos leaves off, like one day later. Katie hops into the coffee shop and sees her fairy godmother. Seriously, her fairy godmother. The godmother tells her that she's there to help her with her love life because the man she's with is very important. After a few disastrous dates with the guy due to Ms. Godmother's interference, Katie figures her out. The book continues with the tale of Phelan Idris and his not-so-kosher magic business, and ends in a surprising way, finding a good use for the godmother after all.

Verdict:
I heart it. Now, there were a lot of things about Damsel Under Stress that I didn't like. I don't like Ms. Fairy Godmother, I find her quite annoying and almost gave up on her. I don't like the ending. But, I like the story, and I like the way Swendson writes. If this were the last book in a series, it would undoubtedly get a No Love from me, but since I know how it turns out in the end, I'm gonna go ahead and say I heart it. Make sense? This is definitely my least favorite Katie Chandler volume though.

The Gauntlet:

At what location does most of the story take place?
New York City, NY, USA

What is the main character's name?
Katie Chandler

Does I Heart Monster like the main character?
Yes of course. I heart Katie Chandler. Otherwise, I wouldn't have read four books about her ;o)

How long did it take I Heart Monster to finish the book?
1 day

Did I Heart Monster get stuck at any points in the book? If so, why?
A lot of fairy godmother parts. That character made me want to stop reading the book.

Is this a good read for Monster?
Again, no. This is not a series for men.

What, if anything, would I Heart Monster change to make the book more interesting?
Take out the Fairy Godmother. I think she was a stretch that didn't enhance the story line. It might have been a more interesting read without her.

Does the author have a website?
Yes!
Shanna Swendson: Fairy Tales for Modern Times.
